Saree, Kurta or Casual? Planning Your Pre-Wedding Shoot Outfits in Chennai

You have chosen a date for your pre-wedding shoot. Now comes the question: what should you wear?

Start with clothes that feel like you and suit the setting. You and your partner can coordinate without wearing identical colours. Comfort matters too: an outfit should let you enjoy the session rather than spend it adjusting sleeves, pleats or a collar.

Here is a practical way to prepare your looks before the shoot.

Decide what each outfit needs to do

Tell your photographer what you imagine doing during the session. Will you walk along a beach, sit together in a courtyard or take formal portraits indoors?

Try those movements while wearing your shortlisted outfit. Sit down, take a few steps and raise your arms. Check whether a blouse pulls, a kurta restricts movement or a hem catches under your feet. Make alterations before the shoot instead of discovering the problem on location.

Give your saree drape a trial run

If you plan to wear a saree, practise the complete look with the blouse, underskirt and footwear you will use.

Decide who will help with draping and touch-ups. If you want photographs with the pallu arranged in a particular way, show your photographer a reference and discuss whether it will work at your chosen location. Outdoor movement and wind may affect the result, so leave room for adjustments.

Make the groom’s outfit equally ready

Check the fit of a shirt or kurta after fastening every button. Try the full combination with trousers or a veshti, footwear and any accessories.

For a veshti, practise walking and sitting in the intended style. Bring someone who can help with adjustments if needed. Empty bulky pockets before portraits and keep phones, keys and wallets in a separate bag.

Confirm where you can change

Before planning several looks, check whether the location has a private changing area and whether using it requires a booking.

Include draping, jewellery changes and travel between locations when discussing the session length. One fully prepared look can be more enjoyable than an ambitious outfit plan with nowhere convenient to change.

If you are hiring clothing, confirm collection and return arrangements, alteration rules and any restrictions on outdoor use.

Plan for the ground beneath your feet

A polished floor, garden path and sandy beach call for different footwear decisions. Ask about the surfaces at your chosen location.

Carry an easy walking pair if your portrait shoes are less practical between photographs. Check that the outfit’s length works with both pairs, particularly when wearing a long skirt or saree.

Pack by complete look

Keep each outfit together with its matching accessories and footwear. Use separate pouches for small items so they are easy to find.

Bring a simple touch-up kit with the items you normally use, plus a spare shirt if appropriate. Keep clothing protected during travel and avoid placing garment bags directly on damp or dusty surfaces.

Share the finished looks beforehand

Send your photographer a simple photograph of both complete outfits together. Mention anything you prefer to avoid, such as sitting on the ground or poses that need extensive movement.

This gives everyone a clearer starting point while leaving space for natural expressions and interaction on the day.
